National day for truth and reconciliation

30-Sep-2023

In the acknowledgment of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Krogman Stainless Inc. would like to share with you some historical information about this National day!

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a significant observance in Canada that was established to recognize and commemorate the historical injustices and systemic abuse inflicted upon Indigenous peoples, particularly the survivors of the Indian Residential School system. This solemn day is intended to foster reflection, education, and healing while promoting national awareness about the traumatic legacy of colonization and cultural assimilation policies.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was officially designated by the Canadian government in 2021, following the publication of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) final report in 2015. The TRC examined the experiences of Indigenous children who were forcibly removed from their families and communities and placed in residential schools, which operated for over a century.

The primary purpose of the day is to remember and honor the survivors of residential schools, as well as those who did not survive the system. It serves as a platform for acknowledging the lasting impacts of colonial policies on Indigenous communities, including the loss of culture, language, and traditional knowledge.

Acknowledge, reflect & let’s stand together in respect of this honorable purpose today!
